Monday night, a huge blast shook a neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, while police were looking into a man who had discharged a flare gun numerous times from inside a house, as stated by the police.
The officers on the scene did not sustain any major injuries, though the condition of the person who was present in the house during the explosion could not be determined right away, as revealed by the authorities.
A video posted on the internet revealed a powerful explosion that seemingly propelled the roof and other pieces of debris into the sky. Locals reported that the sound and force of the blast were detectable and felt for several miles beyond the outskirts of Washington, D.C.
A detonation was heard after gunshots were discharged
At about 4:45 p.m., people living in the neighborhood informed police of a possible shooting, according to Ashley Savage, a spokesperson for the Arlington County police. After an investigation, officers concluded that a flare gun had been discharged.
At approximately 8 p.m., police officers were attempting to execute a search warrant at the dwelling when the occupant inside “fired off multiple shots,” according to Savage.
She remarked that the house had then detonated. The fire brigade reported that the blaze had been tamed by approximately 10:40 p.m., yet they were still addressing smaller fires.
Authorities have been unable to enter the location and have not been able to ascertain if any fatalities occurred. Savage reported that the suspect was in the building at the time of the explosion.
Savage reported that, up to this time, only one person has been known to be inside the residence.
Police in Virginia reveal facts concerning house explosion
On the fourth of December, two thousand and twenty-three, at fifty minutes past eight in the evening,.
According to the police statement released early Tuesday, the individual had discharged the flare gun roughly 30 to 40 times “from their house into the local area.”
The police indicated that shots were discharged within the residence in their presence prior to the detonation at approximately 8:25 p.m. It is presumed that the rounds were discharged from a gun.
The officers were in the process of attempting to communicate with the individual and execute the search warrant when the gunfire and blast took place, as the spokesperson described.
The name of the person involved in the incident was not revealed. Savage stated that the reasons for the explosion were being looked into.
Police held back Carla Rodriguez of South Arlington, who had arrived after hearing the explosion from over two miles away.
The woman revealed to the Associated Press that she had initially assumed that an airplane had blown up.
Bob Maynes, a resident of the area, assumed a tree had crashed into his abode when he felt the intensity of the explosion shaking his residence.
Maynes informed the Associated Press that while he was in his living room enjoying television, the whole house suddenly shook. He added that it wasn’t a tremor like the ones caused by earthquakes, but the whole building vibrated.
Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) expressed that the situation was “extremely alarming” and praised the first responders for their efforts on X.

The county police department reported that there were minor injuries, but no one required hospitalization, according to police officers.
The Washington FBI office announced that they were participating in the probe, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives declared that they had dispatched fire investigators to the site to help.
